Data and licences

wcway shows public toilets that people mapped in OpenStreetMap. People on wcway add facts to them. This page names each source with its licence and its credit. It also offers the open data for download.

Changed by wcway: wcway selects the toilets, builds the places around them and adds the facts that people decided by vote. The README of the dumps lists these changes.

Vector map tiles from Protomaps, cut from OpenStreetMap data. wcway serves them itself.

Photos

A toilet page shows a photo when OpenStreetMap links one from Wikimedia Commons or Panoramax. wcway shows it only with a free licence and a known author, and serves it from its own domain.

Licence
Each photo has its own licence: CC0, public domain, CC BY, CC BY-SA or Etalab Open Licence 2.0
Credit
Next to each photo: the name of the author, the licence and a link to the source

Verified Partner labels come from a separate database. They are not open data and not part of the dumps.

How to credit the data

Show the credit next to the data. Link it to the OpenStreetMap copyright page and name the ODbL as the licence. The API and the MCP server send the credit in the field attribution.

Open data dumps

wcway offers its OpenStreetMap-based data as a free download. Each import replaces the files. They are under the ODbL 1.0 and need no key.

If you publicly use a database that you derive from a substantial part of these files, it must stay under the ODbL or a compatible licence. Keep the credit and the licence notice with every copy.

Report a data problem

Open the toilet page. Choose “Report a problem” when a toilet is gone, closed or in the wrong place. Choose “Correct this” to fix one fact, such as the access rule or the opening hours. A moderator checks each report. A report about an OpenStreetMap toilet can also become an anonymous OpenStreetMap note.

You can also fix the error at the source. Edit OpenStreetMap. wcway reads the change with the next import.
